Sarah RakesGeorgia (born 1955) "Rakes began painting for her own amusement in 1986. Within a year she was being praised by critics as one of the leading folk artists in the South. She paints fanciful, brilliantly colored paintings of rural landscapes, flowers, animals and angels, all mounted in exotically painted, handmade frames. A dreamlike spirituality distinguishes much of Rakes' work. Perspective is skewed, but in subtle and appealing ways. All of her paintings are driven by her deep sensitivity to and affection for life and land. They express contentment and happiness in a manner that is stimulating to the eye and the imagination."
